Mobile Phone & Smart Watch policy reminder

The Student Mobile Phones in Public Schools policy requires all public schools to ban the use of mobile phones for all students from the time they arrive at school to the end of the school day. Mobile phones must be handed in to the class teacher or the front office for storage during the school day – they can not be left in their school bags during the day. Although OSH Club have their own policies and procedures, they have informed us that students are not to be in possession of a mobile phone during before or afterschool care. Please direct any OSH related queries to them.

This extends to the use of smart watches which need to be in aeroplane mode during this period.  The policy aims to reduce distractions in class and improve student engagement. Smart watches, which are not in ‘school mode’ or ‘aeroplane mode’ are treated as a mobile phone and must be handed in to be stored safely for the day.

In the policy, primary students cannot have a mobile phone in their possession.  This means if your child brings a mobile phone to school, it will be stored until the end of the school day.

Exceptions are allowed for students who have approval from me to use a phone to monitor health conditions. This must be approved by the school principal.

If your child needs to contact you, they can do so through the school administration. Likewise, if you need to get a message to your child, you can call the school.
