Our school numbers around 420 children this year and we are all pleased to be back for a year of learning. We trust that you all enjoyed the past 8 weeks with your children and took time to spend time relaxing and exploring together. We have had a lovely welcome back assembly introducing our new staff and welcoming them and our new students. Staff has been working over the last two days to prepare for the new term.
Teachers will be organising information meetings with you in the first 3 weeks to introduce themselves and let you know about the programs in the class. Information will be sent home if you are unable to attend. Camp Australia is available for parents who need to drop children off early or pick them up later in the afternoon. Nicolette from Camp Australia will be happy to enrol your child, and she can be found in the main undercover area or the wet area of Wetlands before and after school.
Supervision for your child cannot be guaranteed or provided before 8:00 or after 3:15. In the morning children are in the boat area until the handbell goes at 8:30. From week 3 the handbell will be rung at 8:45 each odd week (Week 3,5,7,9) on Wednesdays. Parents have asked that this be fortnightly so they can remember. This allows for teachers to meet for planning purposes each fortnight.
This school is very conscious of maintaining our reputation as a leading Wastesorted and Landcare school and so your children will be bringing their stationery boxes home so that you can recycle them. We would also like to reduce the amount of water bottles, lunchboxes, hats and jackets we send to landfill so please put your child’s name on all items they bring to school.
This year our Year 5 and 6 students will be doing swimming lessons at Coogee Beach for the first 8 days. We will be reminding them to take water bottles and hats. The school has sunscreen which is provided before the lessons. Children can bring their own zinc and are encouraged to apply sunscreen just before they get on the bus.
Welcome to all our new and returning families. We encourage you to be part of our school community through taking part in school activities or as a member of our P&C.
I encourage you to discuss your child’s school day when they come home so you can hear about lots of the fun things your child has learnt and done every day.
Your voluntary contribution of $60 per child, ($1.50 per week) enables us to provide the extras we do, and we are happy to accept that at any time of the year.
Thank you for trusting us with your children. We pride ourselves on providing the best educational and social opportunities for them.
