Welcome back to Term 3

Good afternoon parents and caregivers.

Last term was a very long one, and we had many of our staff and students away sick. I am pleased to say that this morning everyone was looking very rested and all the children I have spoken to had a wonderful holiday. Today, just to start the term off on a busy note, Constable Care came to finish off the visit to the school. As last week was officially NAIDOC Week, teachers will be doing work around Aboriginal culture, and we are marking it this Thursday with a short, student only, assembly. Our Assistant Regional Education Director will also visit the school on Thursday.

Friday is National Pyjama Day. Children are invited to wear their jamas and/or dressing gowns for a gold coin donation.  Children were very excited to hear about it this morning. Sports sessions will still run so children need their sneakers and those students who will be in the school cross country team will need to bring a change of clothes so they can train properly.

Next week on the Wednesday, the school will be having a regular 3 yearly School Review. This is undertaken by the Department of Education in all schools to validate each school’s practice. I will let you know how we go! You will be represented by Julia Formato-Stockman your School Board Chair, and Peter Gaspar, your P&C President. 20 staff members will contribute to short discussions about the school’s operations and 9 students will provide student voice to the process.

School photos will be taken on the 29th and 30th of July. Information will be sent out when we receive it.

During the holidays, the school front office has been refurbished with the aim of providing better service to you, our community. Please come and have a look. The school’s staff room also needed new cupboards as they had become mouldy, and we look forward to showing you that at the next P&C meeting. We thank the Department for supporting us in some of this work.

Also, during the holidays, there was some fire damage to our new court surface. This meant that the gates had to be locked and our community had no access. We leave the courts open for the benefit of the community. If you see people using the courts inappropriately, please ring 131444 and report it so that we can continue to leave this open for children to shoot hoops or practise tennis. This is your school!
