Physical Education

The Physical Education program at South Coogee Primary School, led by our specialist teacher, offers a vibrant mix of cooperation, healthy competition and active participation in both individual and team-based activities. Students develop fundamental movement skills, build confidence, and learn the value of teamwork, resilience and fair play. Our program promotes a lifelong love of physical activity through engaging games, skill development, fitness challenges and inclusive sporting experiences that cater to all abilities.

Our whole-school program provides students in Years 2–6 with opportunities to participate in block sport and a wide range of interschool competitions. Each year, South Coogee students proudly represent the school in Netball, AFL, Minkey Hockey, Cricket, Soccer, Tag Rugby, Tennis and a variety of other sporting disciplines. These events build teamwork, school spirit and healthy competition, and our students take great pride in the many trophies and achievements earned at carnivals and interschool fixtures. The energy, enthusiasm and commitment they bring to sport are a standout feature of our school community.

Swimming Lessons are provided for all students from Pre-Primary to Year Six.

The school organises and facilitates both Faction Athletic and Interschool Athletic Carnivals within the Fremantle-Peel District.

We enrich our Physical Education program through a range of strong partnerships with sporting organisations, community groups and specialist providers who bring expertise and excitement to our students’ learning. Core components of the program include Swimming, Dance, Gymnastics, Athletics and Game Skills, ensuring students experience a diverse and well-rounded approach to physical development.

We also collaborate with external specialists, including a professional dance company that delivers high-quality, energising programs for selected year levels. These experiences broaden students’ skills, build confidence and add a dynamic layer to our already vibrant PE program.

The focus with the younger students is on fundamental movement skills especially disciplines of body management skills, loco-motor skills and object control skills.

Running Club

When teachers are available and the weather is not inclement, students voluntarily participate in a teacher supervised early morning running club to improve fitness.

When Runners Club is held it is followed by a Breakfast Club run by our School Chaplain,  and parents.
