South Coogee Primary School provides a rich and dynamic Indonesian Languages program from Pre-Primary to Year 6. Students engage in a sequenced specialist program aligned to the Western Australian Curriculum: Languages, with learning designed to build confidence, cultural understanding and authentic communication skills for both new and continuing learners.

Learning progresses from exploring personal identity (“self”) to understanding family, community and the wider world. Students build their Indonesian vocabulary and language structures through purposeful, achievable tasks that promote real-world application.

Cultural learning is a strong feature of the program. Students participate in hands-on activities in class and across the school that deepen their appreciation of Indonesian culture and highlight the important relationship between language, identity and community.

Environmental sustainability and cross-curricular learning remain key priorities. 

The program continues to be supported by the ELLA (Early Learning Languages Australia) apps, which offer engaging digital experiences that reinforce and extend language learning beyond the specialist classroom. These tools are well utilised by teachers to enrich student engagement and provide additional opportunities for practice.
