ICT, Digital Technologies & BYOD Program

Teachers at South Coogee Primary School recognise the importance of integrating technology in ways that enrich learning and build essential future-ready skills. Guided by the Department of Education’s policies on digital technologies, cyber safety and effective ICT integration, we ensure our practices are safe, contemporary and aligned with system expectations.

Digital Technologies is also offered as a specialist subject from Pre-Primary to Year 6, providing students with dynamic, hands-on opportunities to explore, create and problem-solve. Through this whole-school approach, students develop the confidence and capability to think critically, innovate and navigate an increasingly digital world

Every classroom is equipped with contemporary digital tools that enhance engagement and support powerful learning experiences. Alongside desktop computers and interactive screens, students have access to a wide range of cutting-edge technologies, including iPads, LEGO® NXT and EV3 Mindstorms, Dash and Dot robots, Raspberry Pi devices, Sphero robots, Bee-Bots and even a DJI Phantom Pro 4 drone. These resources enable students to experiment, code, design and explore real-world problem-solving in authentic and inspiring ways.

We also operate a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program for students in Years 4–6. Families are encouraged to provide a compatible laptop that supports classroom learning and allows students to access digital tools with ease. This approach promotes continuity between home and school, builds digital independence and ensures students can confidently engage with the technologies and platforms used across the curriculum.

The use of technology is an integral part of learning across all areas. This is assisted by our Network Support Officer, Pardeep, who works Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays supporting students and staff with ICT.
