Change to Out of School Care in 2023

We have been working with our current Out of School Care, OSHClub over the past few years and they have taken wonderful care of your children. We have enjoyed having their supervisors in our school, and they have gone out of their way to do the best work they can. As a matter of course the contract came up for tender this term. A range of providers tendered for the contract and it was won by Camp Australia who will be joining our school community in 2023. We thank OSHClub for their service to our school.

Athletics

Term 3 is always very busy with Athletics. All children enjoyed the whole school Cross Country run and those children who were successful in their age groups were awarded medallions for their great efforts. Children from Years 3-6 who were successful competed in the Interschool Cross Country at Manning Park. South Coogee PS was runner up in the A division and Mr Gough and Mrs Dawson were there cheering them on and were extremely excited. Special mention to Year 6 Emily Chambers and Year 4 Abby Mills who came first in their races. As around 60 students run in each race this result was highly commendable. The Faction Athletics are coming up on September 16th and children are practising hard for their team events.

Ballet WA – from Mrs Bux

The Year 5 students and Teachers at South Coogee Primary School are very excited!

We have the privilege of being involved with the W.A. Ballet with their reimaging of the classic, Swan Lake production.

The Swan Education Project takes the Kuljak-Maallii Ba story into three primary schools in outer-metro Perth- and we are one of them! Firstly, the story is shared by an elder, then a team of teaching artists support the students in creating artistic responses to the story. This is a10 week, multi-art form project, the teams will consist of dance artists as well as artists from other art forms so the students will be supported to create a number of different artistic outcomes.

The new version of Swan Lake, is re-set in the Swan River Colony of the 1800’s, and the W.A. Ballet Company are working with Barry McGuire to incorporate his family’s black swan story. This will be the first time Barry’s story and dance, Kuljak-Maallii Ba, will be performed for a non-indigenous audience in over 200 years.

This is such an amazing, one-off opportunity for our year 5 students, which culminates with complimentary tickets and transport to His Majesty’s Theatre to see the Swan Lake school matinee, in November.

Solar Tour Fremantle College

Our students enjoyed a performance from the Year 9 and 10 students from Fremantle College recently. It certainly gave them something to aim for when they get to high school!
