AIR News from the Principal

Kaya and Wanjoo

The beginning of a new year is always exciting in schools. We look forward to seeing children greeting their friends and making new ones.

We would like to welcome all our new families to our school community and invite you to take every opportunity to join in the activities of the school. The P&C is always seeking new members and their fund raising provides lots of benefits to all children. Keep an eye out for the AGM.

The Canteen, which is managed by the P&C and run by Liliana Rebola will continue to provide healthy lunches and snacks for the children on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The menu is on the website. The canteen supports the school’s Sustainability vision by moving towards a totally ‘green’ canteen. An industrial dishwasher is being installed to reduce waste. This is the result of a grant application by Mrs Anderson.

CAMP Australia is our new out of school provider. I hear they are becoming very busy. We thank them for their generous gift of free coffee for all our parents and staff, and a petting zoo for all children in the school and look forward to working with them in the future to continue provide high quality care for your children.

Your Board will meet for the first time on Tuesday 15th February. Your parent representatives are Julia Formato-Stockman, April Morgan, Sanja Tesic.

Thank you for making sure your children are wearing the correct uniform. Details are on our website. To be equitable, girls’ uniforms include shorts. Please note they should be loose fitting mid-thigh and navy blue.

BYOD information for Years 3-6 is available on the website. If these devices are for shared use at home, please ensure that all web browsers are closed before your child/ren arrive at school. Our safety system is set up so that it flags non approved sites. These include social media, adult content and non-educational games. Unfortunately, this can result in your child/ren being flagged for breach of the ICT code of conduct unintentionally.

We work hard to take care of your child’s physical and mental health as well as their academic progress. Year 4, 5 and 6 teachers will be working with children from a Wellness Diary. This can be purchased from the school office. This keeps the price down to $13. Please help us to help your child develop good mental health by purchasing them the diary.

Our first School Development Day this year will be on March 3rd, the Friday before the Labour Day holiday.

We look forward to another great year at South Coogee Independent Public School. Ms Barnes class were hard at work doing a silent shuffle yesterday.
