Principal’s Update Feb 2018

NEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome back to all our families especially to those of you who are new to the school. This is a school which welcomes parents to be part of our wonderful school community. There are always lots of ways you can be part of it and to help to enrich your child’s life. Please take every opportunity to be part of this great school community.

We have had a very smooth start to our year. This year we used Connect for the first time to inform parents about classes. Connect is an Education Department communication tool which is used by Government Primary and High Schools. It will be the main way we communicate with parents. Consideration has been given to social, emotional and educational aspects when forming classes. Classes are always temporary till we have completed our Departmental census and staff numbers have been confirmed. This census takes place on the second full week of term when all children should have returned to our school. Some changes to classes may need to be made then, but will not be made before. In the past we have had to make some changes to classes and all parents are informed should their child be affected. Teachers will be sending introductory letters and having class meetings for parents in the first few weeks, with many teachers combining their meetings if they are teaching the same grade. South Coogee Primary School is following the West Australian Curriculum and teachers and classes are working collaboratively.

Thank you very much to Cockburn Cement for our wonderful new tepees in the early childhood area. The children love them and it’s obvious that the men who installed them took a great deal of trouble and the result is making the children very happy.
