From the Principal
Our school has been filled with butterflies over the last few weeks. We have all been privileged to have seen the life cycle of the butterfly happening in each classroom and here in the office. It was very exciting to release these beautiful creatures. This is part of the Butterfly Project organised by Mrs Sputore, our STEM teacher and being undertaken under her instigation by many neighbouring schools. For more information about this fabulous initiative, have a look at the website linked to the school’s under learning programs or at: http://southcoogeeps.wa.edu.au/learning-programs/butterfly-project/
We had a visit last week from the Regional Education Director, Mrs Sue Cuneo. We were very pleased that Julia Formato-Stockman, your School Board Chair was able to join us to chat with Mrs Cuneo at morning tea and for a tour of our lovely school. Mrs Cuneo told me that it was obviously a good school as there was a sense of calm here.
She wrote to say: It was a very pleasant visit and I felt very welcome. You have a lovely school, please thank everyone for their hospitality. You should be very proud.
I will be taking Long Service Leave for the last week of this term and the first week of next term. Following that I will be taking every second Friday as a non-working day. Mr Bushe-Jones will be Acting Principal during these days and for the two weeks of my leave.
The Responsible Behaviour Plan has been uploaded to our website to include the new responsible for good standing policy as directed by the Department.
We have a very busy time until the holidays at South Coogee Primary School. Next Wednesday 27th March our school will close at 11:45am to allow our annual progress meetings to take place. If you haven’t booked a time with your child’s teacher please make sure you do via our online booking tool on https://bookings.parentteacheronline.com.au?school=cssas . If you can’t login, please contact the office for assistance.
Tomorrow we have our Harmony Day celebrations with an incursion from Indonesian Infusion for the children, followed by Harmony Day activities. Harmony Day is always an important day on our school calendar as we formally celebrate our multicultural society and all the wonderful cultures around the world. We see this as a very important day giving our children the message that we all can live together in a harmonious way.
Next week the Cockburn Interschool Summer Carnival will be held for teams from Year 4-6. Our ANZAC Day ceremony will be held on Friday 12th April at 10:20. All are welcome to attend.
We have had a few responses to the survey regarding the Fathering Project, however there has not been enough interest to organise a representative to come to talk to our community about it. There is still time to respond at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/K3ZRPSW
This year Easter and ANZAC Day will fall during the school holidays. A Staff Development Day on Monday 29th April will mean that students return to school on the Tuesday after the holidays.
We are now taking School Voluntary Contributions of $60.00 per child. Payment can be made by direct deposit or at the front office. We accept cash and have EFTPOS facilities available. We are happy to accept pre paid activity amounts for your child. An amount of $30.00 would be acceptable for the beginning of the year. Each time your child attends an incursion of excursion we would automatically deduct the amount incurred from your child’s account.
A payment plan can be arranged. Please contact Sue Parr on 9494 8000.

First rehearsal went well. We are learning Shotgun and Beat It. Well done to our members who have made the commitment to learn their songs at home each day.
Mr & Mrs Wheatley
Started last week for students from years 4 to 6. We had a great turn up – 36 students. We spent the session doing activities to get to know each other. These included…. Toe to Toe, Intro and Applause and Dance Your Name! It was a pleasure teaching them and watching children who are usually shy, having a go!
Thankyou to the Vertes Family for donating a keyboard and stand and to the James Family – it was a lovely suprise to walk into the Music Room and have a drum kit set up and ready to go! We really appreciate your generosity.
