Planning for 2019
We would like to know if your child will not be attending South Coogee Primary School next year. This will help us with our planning. Please let the lovely ladies in the front office know as soon as possible by either ringing, emailing or in person.
44 parents have had a say about their child’s school. All parents are invited to complete this short survey. https://www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/MsuGKN2x
We need you to help! Contributions are being gratefully accepted at the front office and can be paid by card. The $60 you pay comes down to 30c per day to enrich your child’s education. If you have paid your $60, you can be assured that this has been used for those extra things which can’t be covered through regular funding and which make our school program so interesting. Thank you!
The children, staff and parent helpers thoroughly enjoyed the fun at the recent Colour Run. This was a great effort from our P&C to provide an enjoyable event and to raise money for playground equipment.
Outdoor Learning Day and Count Us In
Next Thursday the whole school will be participating with thousands of other children around Australia in Count Us In. Many schools will be singing a song called One Song at the same time. Ms Simon has been preparing the children for this occasion. Why not ask your child/ren to sing it to you.
Following that we will also be participating in Outdoor Learning Day as a whole school where we will be taking our lessons to the outdoors for the day. After lunch we will all do some mindfulness all together. It’s taken lots of planning from a hard working committee and should be very enjoyable and educational. Look on the website for photos.
To commemorate the 100 years that have passed since the armistice was signed to end the first World War. South Coogee successfully applied for a grant through the federal government to have two new flag poles installed. This allows us to proudly fly the Australian flag alongside our state and Aboriginal flags. We would like to formally thank Digger Cleak from the Cockburn RSL for writing us a letter to support this grant application. Our Remembrance Day ceremony will be held on Monday November 12 at 10:45am. Parents and caregivers are welcome to attend.
Shade Shelters for ECE have been delayed while waiting for Council approval. The project is being coordinated through the Department of Education, so we hope they will be started soon.

On Friday the Years 2, 3 and 4 Indonesian classes were lucky to have Suara Dance come and show us some different dances from around Indonesia. Many students were able to participate and try some percussion dancing and it looked like everyone really enjoyed the performances. Both dancers From Suara Dance commented on the excellent behaviour of the students and their willingness to take part. Well done everyone!
This term we are looking at different ways that Indonesians celebrate important occasions. Year 2 will be looking at what people do to celebrate, Year 3 will be focusing on special celebrations in Australia and Indonesia, and Year 4 will look at the Balinese festival Hari Nyepi. All classes will have a chance to try some different foods from Indonesia this term. Please look out for some notes coming home about the food we will try and how to get in touch with me if you have any questions about allergies.

Year Ones had an amazing day at Scitech on Tuesday. It was wonderful to observe all the learning intentions Miss Mayho and I have covered this year come together. From shadows on the basketball court, our Talk for Writing text on constellations, seasons, equator and continents, coding bee bots were some of the things that we were able to manipulate and revise again at Scitech.
Thought you might like this photo, it was my class’s highlight of the day!! He promised it was totally safe.
Coles Sports for Schools Vouchers
A massive thank you to all parents, students and relatives that helped South Coogee collect a whopping 85 000 Coles vouchers (the most vouchers collected by a school in the Fremantle district). We have now received our sports equipment which students will be delighted to use. A huge thank you to staff who helped count the vouchers and especially Cyndi Wood, who counted, tallied, bagged and returned the vouchers for us. A very worthwhile program run by Coles.
