Parent Survey

In our annual parent survey we provide an opportunity for parents and caregivers to have a say about their child’s school. All parents are invited to complete this short survey.  https://www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/MsuGKN2x

Swimming

Students are enjoying the warmer weather during swimming lessons. Our students are fortunate to have a facility like this. The ARC is a great venue, as will be the Kwinana Recquatic Centre next year.

The latest art work

Our senior students have decorated the sea container with art based on that of Keith Haring. You will see the final product near the Nature Play area. Thanks to Cockburn Cement for their sponsorship and to Mrs Bux, and Mr Scott, our gardener for this new quality art piece.

Butterfly garden

Mrs Sputore has initiated and is leading a District wide sustainability project to increase the butterfly population in our area. This project at our school is in its early stages, and will be based between Wetlands and Bushlands 9 on the grass hill. Approximately 20 teachers from surrounding schools attended an introductory meeting last Monday where they were given seedlings to plant which are ‘butterfly friendly’. The project is generously sponsored by the City of Cockburn and Cockburn Cement.

Holiday works
  • Additional shade structures will be constructed during the holidays in the ECE area to make the area more useable for your young children in both the hot and the rainy weather.
  • Two more flagpoles will be installed to fly the Aboriginal and the Torres Strait Islander flags. This is the result of an Armistice grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs to commemorate the end of WW1 100 years ago on November 11. We will have a ceremony on Friday 9th November for Remembrance Day.
  • 7 New Interactive Whiteboards will be installed.

Kind regards
Lyn

School Board Report

The School Board met last Tuesday morning.  On the agenda for this meeting was an important discussion around the new review system for all public schools that is being rolled out.  The timeline for the South Coogee review will most likely be mid-2019.  We look forward to this process as we believe as a school community we have made enormous gains in all aspects of the school over the last three years.  We also discussed a planned three year roll out of new Interactive Whiteboards throughout the school.

After deliberating with our teachers, we have decided to use Promethean ActivPanels in all classrooms.  We are expecting the first 7 boards to be installed over the school holidays.  Our staffing processes for 2019 are well and truly underway.  We have advertised pools for ECE Teachers and Year 1-6 Teachers as well as the STEM Teacher role as a permanent position.

The meeting concluded with a brief discussion around our financial audit that recently took place.  The Board was pleased with the overall success of the audit and processes the school has taken to address the recommendations.

Sports News

Congratulations to everyone concerned with the School Athletics Carnival last Friday 7th September. It was a terrific day and all our students were actively involved in a very friendly, competitive and tabloid based carnival for the Pre Primary and Year 1. It was great to see so many of our students having a happy and enthusiastic time. I saw many examples of excellent running and sportsmanship throughout the day.

Well done to Blue Faction who were the overall winners of the Carnival for 2018.
